As part of an ongoing collaboration between Yellow Studio and Volkswagen, The Directors Bureau Special Projects is undertaking the creation of 12 digital sets for Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.” These sets will be developed and rendered using cutting-edge 3D technology, enabling the incorporation of dynamic lighting, innovative camera movements, and animated features that surpass the capabilities of conventional set design.
Our work draws heavily on German architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel’s classic set designs from 1816. We will preserve his baroque, dramatic compositions and rich Freemason symbolism while injecting the sets with a bold palette, a techno-futurist bend, and a greater sense of life than still backdrops can convey.
